We Are the Remix
Röda Sten Konsthall, Göteborg, Sweden, 2017
We Are the Remix is MUSEEA’s celebration of diversity and borderlessness through a visually captivating and immersive multi-sensory experience. The exhibition brings together some of the most distinguished modern artists and filmmakers into a shared and unifying architectural world, bursting with colour, structure and topography. Central to MUSEEA’s vision, was a miniature cityscape which unfolded within the main ‘Cathedral’ space of the Röda Sten Konsthall, complete with buildings, squares, balconies and viewpoints.
MUSEEA sought to engage their audience in the sensorial landscape of their imagined world by making full use of the capacious nature of the gallery. Brightly-coloured translucent sheets were suspended from the ceiling, both to emphasise the height of the building, as well as to focus on the natural flow of daylight through the large windows. A raised floor enabled visitors to enjoy the beautiful river views over the Göta Channel—accompanied by the comfort of deckchairs and refreshments from the kiosk. This unique landscape encouraged visitors to absorb the curatorial narrative of the exhibition.
Inspired by Constructivist ideas of creating a functional yet visually stimulating space, MUSEEA shaped a physical microcosm within which the artist and the viewer could unite and interact meaningfully. An amphitheatre made of recycled pallets and plywood at the core of the space provided both an opportunity to view films and as a social meeting point from which to enjoy the exhibition. The translucent coloured sheets hung from the ceiling both elevated and divided the space, as well as suffusing the room in a dance of light and colour, reflecting the exhibition’s message of diversity and collectivity.
Over 80% of the materials used in the exhibition were reused afterwards. MUSEEA is dedicated to reducing the environmental footprint of the art world, and conscientiously ensure that, where possible, materials are reused, recycled or rehoused.
Size: 700m2
